World’s highest solitary peak spells a clear message to all!

Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Tanzania, Africa at 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet above sea level with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira at dormant stage.

These two images taken by NASA show the changes in snow accumulations on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The top image was photographed on February 17, 1993 and the lower one was photographed on February 21, 2000.

On a clear morning I was lucky to see this view from the plane of the famous  Mount Kilimanjaro.

Kilimanjaro is one of the 26 regions in Tanzania. Moshi is the capital of Kilimanjaro region and home to Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro bordered to the North and East by Kenya, to the South by the Tanga Region, to the Southwest by the Manyara Region, and to the West by the Arusha Region. As of 2002 Tanzania National Census, the population of the Kilimanjaro Region was 1,381,149.

White Snows in the House of God

Message from 100PlacesToRemember on May 20, 2009
When Ernest Hemingways novel The Snows of Kilimanjaro was published in 1936, it made the snow-capped East African mountain famous and turned it into a legend.

For the local Masai tribes living on the plains beneath it, the mountain had already been a living legend for centuries. To them, it is Ngàja Ngái the House of God.

Seen from the plains below, Kilimanjaros peak emerges from a ring of fog and cloud that shrouds its forest-covered lower slopes. When Hemingway first described the mountain, its snow-cap was already melting slowly. Between 1912 and 2003, climate change led to the loss of about 80% of its ice fields, and the remainder of the snow-cap is expected to disappear by 2020.

In itself, the loss of the snow on top of Kilimanjaro will have a limited effect on the ecosystem, as it feeds only a few minor brooks. However, the symbolic effect will be enormous, as an illustration of the speed at which the global climate is changing.

Further down the mountain, the heavy clouds whose vapour and precipitation irrigate the Cloud Forests and feed the rivers have already diminished, due to the rise in temperatures and decrease in atmospheric moisture. This trend is projected to continue and has already increased the frequency of forest fires.

Combined with human-induced deforestation, it will further reduce precipitation. This would have a devastating effect on the woodland, as well as the water supply for the million people of the Chagga and Masai tribes who inhabit the flanks of Kilimanjaro.

What is there to know about Akamai Technologies Inc.

Akamai Technologies, Inc., is an internet content delivery network that founded and developed the mathematical algorithms necessary to handle the dynamic routing of content, a solution to Web congestion.

Founded in 1998 by Daniel M. Lewin and Professor Tom Leighton. Lewin was fatally stabbed aboard American Airlines Flight 11 as it was hijacked during the September 11 attacks.

Daniel "Danny" Mark Lewin (May 14, 1970 – September 11, 2001) was an American-Israeli mathematician and entrepreneur
best known for co-founding internet company

Akamai Technologies.

Smart or intelligent with connotations of insightful, wise or skillful is what Hawaiian word Akamai means.

In simple language, the benefit is that users can receive content from whichever Akamai server or user is close to them or has a good connection, leading to faster download times and less vulnerability to network congestion or outages. Further, for streaming media Akamai claims to provide better scalability by delivering the content over the last-mile from servers close to end users, avoiding the middle-mile bottleneck of the Internet.

Get a feel for the world's online behavior at any given moment -
how much rich media is on the move,
the sheer volume of data in play,
the number and concentration of worldwide visitors,
and average connection speeds worldwide.

On July 21, 1999, at Macworld Expo New York, Apple and Akamai announced a strategic partnership to build Apple's new media network, QuickTime TV (QTV), based on QuickTime Streaming Server. Both companies later announced that Apple had made a $12.5 million investment in the company the previous month.

Apple continues to use Akamai as their primary content delivery network for a wide range of applications including software downloads from Apple's Website, QuickTime movie trailers, and the iTunes Store.

In September 1999, Microsoft and Akamai formed a strategic relationship to incorporate Windows Media technology in Akamai's FreeFlow service, as well as to facilitate the porting of the FreeFlow product to the Windows platform; this relationship exists to this day.

Between 2003 and 2009, Akamai’s "revenue grew at a compounded annual growth rate of more than 32%, and also broadened its worldwide customer base, and sourced from Akamai's core content delivery service.

Arabic news network Al-Jazeera was a customer from March 28, 2003 until April 2, 2003, when Akamai decided to end the relationship. The network's English-language managing editor claimed this was due to political pressure.

Akamai handles 20% of the world's total Web traffic,
providing a unique view into what's happening on the Web -
what events are generating traffic,
how much, from where, and why.

In June 2008, The NewsMarket teamed with Akamai to accelerate dynamic content and applications to global media ahead of the Beijing Olympics

The BBC iPlayer uses Akamai to stream its recorded and live programs, focused through an XML playlist

The official U.S. government White House website uses Akamai Technologies

The entire China Central Television website, including its streaming video, has been hosted on Akamai’s edge servers since late 2009. Hulu uses Akamai for hosting video. MIT OpenCourseWare utilizes Akamai's EdgeSuite for its content delivery network.

Trend Micro uses Akamai for their Housecall antivirus application.

Akamai also provided streaming services to ESPN Star (India) during the course of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.Other customers include Facebook, Twitter, AMD, Hilton Worldwide Hotels, Amazon.com (for their dynamic contents) Adobe Systems, Netflix, Cineville, Miles Kimball, J. In March 2005, Akamai signed an agreement to acquire Speedera Networks for 12 million shares of Akamai common stock, valued at $130 million at that time. Both companies also agreed to halt pending lawsuits involving trade secrets and patent infringement. The acquisition was completed in June 2005.

In November 2006, Akamai acquired Nine Systems Corporation for roughly $164 million using "approximately 2.7 million shares of their common stock, approximately $4.5 million in cash and the assumption of options to purchase approximately 400,000 shares of their common stock."

On April 12, 2007, Akamai acquired Red Swoosh in exchange for 350,000 shares of Akamai common stock. The acquisition of Red Swoosh was valued at approximately $15 million, net of cash acquired.

In March 2007, Akamai acquired Netli in exchange for 3.2 million shares of Akamai stock. The acquisition of Netli was valued at approximately $178 million.

In late 2008, Akamai acquired Acerno, a performance-based ad network, and launched a new division, Advertising Decision Solutions.

And this is what they have to say then . . . .

While all the talk is about gold bullion right now, silver is still a bargain and will be playing catch up very soon. China is dependent on buying USA's depreciating dollars so that it's own currency doesn't become more valuable- thus affecting export affordability. China is trying to hoard as much gold as it can because it knows that the US dollar is eventually going to crash. Luckily China is a huge producer of gold bullion.

NATO a supposedly “fire runner” of “democracy” has been betrayed by NTC with its proclaimed intention on how the new Libya will be governed. Or are they really betrayed?  Oil concessions and arms deals equated into billions of dollars have been forged before the first bombs were dropped by NATO made due and payable to them in no time. From the 170 Billion Dollars of frozen account, a 15 Billion Dollars has been accounted for as per last news release. The said issue has been buried into oblivion to date. This is an act of plunder and economic sabotage of a nation. What court or judicial body will cover and handle these culprits and elitist few?

What the West has done through NATO is beyond tragic, and all the people who have bought the latest round of lies and manipulation will look to Libya as they now look to Iraq, and they will see another disaster that most can never imagine. I did not make this video, but it is so relevant and I am grateful to whoever did.

A cloud of doubt is also upon the “righteous” guys from Hague. They claim to fight against war crimes and yet they stay mum on the air slaughter of thousands of civilians by NATO. Is there any connection with the unaccounted 155 Billion Dollars of frozen money? But chances are this is more a situation of what money and oil can really do.

The better side of Gadhafi who hesitantly left with a commendable record on ensuring Libya’s bank’s asset are fully preserved and not a dime stolen. The Central Bank of Libya under NTC will uphold and confirm this.

ESCARGOT - a Delicacy and an Elite Appetizer

Let this selling price inspire you ... farming it can be very very very ... profitable....Over 2K in US$ for less than a kilo of escargot meat....

Escargot, [ɛs.kaʁ.ɡo], is the French word for snail. It is related to Occitan escaragol and Catalan cargol, which, in turn, may derive from a pre-Roman word *karakauselIi, similarly, Spanish and Portuguese use the term caracol.

A dish of cooked land snails, usually served as an appetizer in France and in French restaurants. The word is also sometimes applied to the living snails of those species which are commonly eaten in this way.

In France, the species Helix pomatia is most often eaten. The "petit-gris" Helix aspersa is also eaten, as is Helix lucorum. Several additional species are popular in Europe.

These snail shells have been found in archaeological sites in the Mediterranean, the edible species Otala lactea has been recovered from Volubilis in present day Morocco. This archaeological recovery is from an era of Roman Empire occupation of this provincial capital, which site was known to embody a very highly developed ancient civilization since its days as a Phoenician and Carthaginian colony.

All these archeological findings yield physical evidence of culinary use of several species of snails utilized as escargot, an indication that snails have been eaten since prehistoric times.
Escargot out of its shell

Typically the snails are purged from questionable contents of their digestive systems that generally involves a combination of fasting and purging or simply feeding them on a wholesome replacement.

Try green leafy vegy,...say lettuce, cabbage, spinach,  a diet of ground cereals ,...sprinkle wine on the vegy...that should give a special taste for the meat when ready to cook.

The methods most often used can take several days and cooked usually with garlic butter, chicken stock or wine and then placed back into the shells together with the butter and sauce for serving. Additional ingredients may be added such as garlic, thyme, parsley and pine nuts. In Maltese cuisine snails of the petit gris variety are simmered in red wine or ale with mint, basil and marjoram. The snails are cooked, and served, in their shells.

Farms producing Helix aspersa for sale exist in Europe and in the United States. In the late '80s, escargot represented a $300 million a year business in the United States.

Pliny described the snail garden of Fulvius Hirpinus 2,000 years ago as having separate sections for different species of snails. Hirpinus allegedly fed his snails on meal and wine. But note, stale beer placed in a shallow dish is a way of killing them. Snails are attracted to the yeast in beer and will crawl into the dish and drown.

The Romans selected the best snails for breeding. "Wall fish" were often eaten in Britain, but were never as popular as on the continent. There, people often ate snails during Lent, and in a few places, they consumed large quantities of snails at Mardi Gras or Carnival, as a foretaste of Lent.

According to some sources, the French exported brown garden snails to California in the 1850s, raising them as the delicacy escargot. Other sources claim that Italian immigrants were the first to bring the snail to the United States.

Economic impact

U.S. imports of snails were worth more than $4.5 million in 1995 and came from 24 countries. This includes preserved or prepared snails and snails that are live, fresh, chilled, or frozen. Major exporters to the U.S. are France, Indonesia, Greece and China. The U.S. exported live, fresh, chilled, or frozen snails worth $55,000 to 13 countries; most were shipped to Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Individual statistics are not available for U.S. exports of prepared or processed snails from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Heliciculture, or snail farming is the process of farming or raising land snails specifically for human consumption, and more recently, to obtain snail slime for cosmetics use.

Perhaps the best known and most often cultivated land snail species in the Western world is Helix pomatia, the Roman snail, Burgundy snail or apple snail. Another species eaten is Helix aspersa. Both of these land snails are European in their native range.

Other species of land snail that are consumed by humans are found in Europe, Northern Africa, North America and in various other parts of the world.

Roasted snail shells have been found in archaeological excavations, an indication that snails have been eaten since prehistoric times.

Achatina fulica and other Achatina species, giant African snails. They can grow up to 326 mm (1 ft ¾ in) in length. Their native range is south of the Sahara in East Africa. This snail was purposely introduced into India in 1847. There was an unsuccessful attempt to establish it in Japan in 1925. It has been purposely and accidentally transported to other Pacific locations and was inadvertently released in California after World War II, in Hawaii, and later in North Miami Florida in the 1970s.

Farming snails

Successful snail culture requires the correct equipment and supplies, including: snail pens or enclosures; devices for measuring humidity (hygrometer), temperature (thermometer), soil moisture, and light (in foot candles); a weight scale and an instrument to measure snail size; a kit for testing soil contents; and a magnifying glass to see the eggs. You also may need equipment to control the climate (temperature and humidity), to regulate water (e.g., a sprinkler system to keep the snails moist and a drainage system), to provide light and shade, and to kill or keep out pests and predators. Some horticultural systems such as artificial lighting systems and water sprinklers may be adapted for snail culture. You will have better results if you use snails of the same kind and generation. Some recommend putting the hatchlings in another pen.

Four systems of snail farms can be distinguished:
  • Outdoor Pens.
  • In buildings with a controlled climate.
  • In closed systems such as plastic tunnel houses or "greenhouses."
  • In addition, snails may breed and hatch inside in a controlled environment and then (after 6 to 8 weeks) may be placed in outside pens to mature.

If there is the black gold referring to oil... then we have the brown gold referring to Escargot...   Go for it !!!
